Hello Reader, There’s something about stepping out of your usual environment—even for just a few hours—that can shift everything. This summer, we’re offering a series of small, half-day meditation retreats here at Antiquity Oaks Farm, just outside Cornell, Illinois. They’ll be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon on the third Saturday of each month (May through August), and the first one is coming up this Saturday. These mornings are simple by design. A chance to slow down, get out of your head a bit, and spend some time in a quieter, more grounded space. We’ll include a mix of guided meditation, silent meditation, and gentle walking meditation, all led by Ryan Barfoot. No experience is needed, and this isn’t anything you have to “do right.” There’s no pressure to share or participate in any particular way—just come as you are. We’ll be meeting in the pavilion by the pond (weather permitting), with backup indoor spaces if it’s rainy and windy. We’ll have comfortable chairs available, but you’re welcome to bring a cushion or mat if you prefer sitting on the ground. Afterward, you’re welcome to linger a bit—have a snack, a cup of coffee or tea, or even spend some time with the goats if that sounds like your thing. We’re keeping these retreats intentionally small—just 8 people per session—so everyone has space to settle in and feel comfortable. 👉 Register for this Saturday’s retreat ($45) Can't make it this Saturday, but want to be notified about other retreats this summer? 👉 Join the waitlist for future summer dates If you’ve been feeling like you need a pause, but haven’t quite made the space for it, this might be an easy place to start. Hello Reader, Want to go to Portugal with me and visit farms? I’m starting to map out a small-group trip (just 8–12 people) for fall 2026 or spring 2027, and it’s shaping up to be a really special blend of learning and relaxing. We’ll spend a week visiting a variety of farms—goat dairies, homesteads, vineyards, and more—while also enjoying the slower pace of life, great food, and time to just soak it all in. A friend of mine who lives in Lisbon will be helping us connect with local farmers...
Hello Reader, Yesterday, I was on Zoom with a friend who moved to Portugal a couple of years ago—and by the end of the conversation, we had the beginnings of something I’m really excited about… A small-group farm tour in Portugal. This is still taking shape, but here’s what I know so far: I’m planning a one-week trip in fall 2026 or spring 2027 (avoiding the rainy season), with a very small group—just 8 to 12 people. We’ll visit a mix of farms—goat dairies, homesteads, vineyards, and...
Hello Reader, This week’s newsletter covers some of the most common goat keeping challenges, from does rejecting kids and figuring out when to wean baby goats to dealing with mites and understanding why a dewormer may not seem to work. Plus, there’s a simple ricotta recipe that came from an unexpected kitchen surprise. When a Doe Rejects Her Kid: How to Encourage Re-Bonding Goat rejection can feel heartbreaking—but it’s not always the end of the story. Whether it’s caused by disbudding,...
