Senior goats, growing turmeric, and pizza dough recipe

Hello [FIRST NAME GOES HERE],

Last week I was at Podfest in Orlando, where I was the only person with a goat podcast. 🐐 There were horse podcasts, dog podcasts, and then… goats. What I loved most was the culture: zero age discrimination and a shared assumption that if you’re in the room, you’re curious, capable, and still growing—whether you’re 10 or 80. It felt a lot like raising goats and building this business: always learning, always adapting, and proof that reinvention doesn’t come with an expiration date.

Life with goats is a long-term adventure, and caring for them into their golden years presents unique challenges and rewards. This guide takes an honest look at the realities of goat aging—from declining fertility and dental changes to nutrition tweaks and keeping them healthy and comfortable in their senior years.

Little chickens, big personalities! With so many bantam breeds to choose from, each has its own unique origin and characteristics. Whether you're drawn to their striking appearances or their compact size, this guide will help you understand 12 of the different breeds and what makes them special.

Did you know you can grow your own turmeric? Not only is this golden root a staple in many kitchens, but it also boasts incredible health benefits. Here’s how to cultivate turmeric at home and enjoy its anti-inflammatory properties all year long.

🎧 Vaccines for Goats

In this episode, Dr. Kevin Pelzer, Professor of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, talks about a variety of vaccines that are available for goats, including the CDT vaccine, as well as those that are not routinely recommended and some that are off-label.

▶ When a Doe is Too Small to Breed

Knowing when a doe is ready to be bred isn’t just about age or hitting a number on the scale. In this video, I explain why size, finished growth, and pelvic development matter far more than the common “2/3 adult weight” rule—and how getting this wrong can put a doe’s life at risk. If you’ve ever asked, “Is my doe big enough to breed?” this is a must-watch.

📄Pizza Dough Recipe

After we started baking our own bread from scratch more than 30 years ago, we started making our own pizzas from scratch. Here is our pizza dough recipe, which I like to bake on a cast iron pizza pan. And depending on the toppings you choose, you can make your pizza as healthy or as decadent as you like!

Happy homesteading!

For the last few years I’ve been spending 40 to 60 hours a week on the computer while he’s been doing almost all of the farm chores. I always want to be totally transparent and let people know that I am not doing it all myself! In addition to the...
